Visit The Detachments - New and Veteran Member Costuming

So you want to start a new costume but aren't sure where to begin?

If you are considering building your own Star Wars villain costume in any of the accepted categories of the 501st Legion, we recommend that you visit a 501st Legion Detachment. Detachments are online Legion communities that are helpful for members who wish to create a costume. CRLs do not offer advice or give specifics on on how to construct a costume. Detachments do offer guidance and support for costumers in that area. They also offer a place for like costumes to post tips and tricks or tutorials, host “Work in Progress” of other members’ costumes and ongoing information on current CRL development. While our Legion forums are restricted to Active members, participation on our Detachment forums is open to the public.

We recommend that anyone wishing to build a costume visit the associated detachment and learn the in's and out's of making a Legion acceptable costume. There are a host of folks there to help and opportunities to create a build thread where the members can look over your progress and help you along. We, as your GMLs, see a marked rise in members passing their initial approval if they have joined a detachment and built their armor/costume with their guidance.

For those of you building costumes within the Pathfinder or First Imperial Stormtrooper Detachments your GMLs are Detachment Costume Advisors (DCA's) for those Detachments and are qualified to assist with your costume.
